Stop blaming PoC for Cali's Prop 8

Not even two days later, and people are blaming Prop 8's passing on PoC.

Other people are saying it, and since I can't say it well, have their links. (continued here...)

Thank you. I also thanked you kindly in that forum for the clarification.

I think it's more than unfortunate that statistically-significant phenomena so easily and often get morphed into generalizations about the populations, especially when skin color has been so tied with such horrific acts of cruelty and degradation for so long.

Even though in my journal here I celebrate the symbolism of people of all colors coming together to say, "Without respect to skin color, this is our choice," I don't kid myself by thinking that "racial" barriers will tumble quickly... *sigh*

Ohio didn't have any BGLTQ issues on the ballot this time, but we did defeat a gambling-casino issue, many of us because it would have altered the state constitution, not because it was about gambling. (That was my prime motivation, though I confess that I disbelieve the claims that casinos bring more good than harm to locales.) It was particularly Machiavellian of the Prop 8 supporters to go the constitutional route, damn their putrid little hearts

I expanded on my thoughts on this some in my blog this evening...

I think it's vitally important to distinguish between descriptive statistics and cause-and-effect relationships. Demographics is not destiny.
