That said, I do very much support efforts to have *our* relationships recognized under the letter of the law... just expect an honest, hostile answer from me when I give my opinion on the wholly separate subject of the mental institution of marriage.

You're not the only one who feels that way. Queers seem to be split on the issue, between the assimilationist and separatist factions. A lot of my radical faerie friends say that they don't support gay marriage because they oppose the institution of state-sponsored marriage in the first place.

Me, I understand the argument against it, but it comes down to a matter of fairness to me. If straights should be allowed to get married, so should we. Personally, if I met the right guy, I'd get married. So long as he understood I would want to be polyamorous.

Of course, after we all have marriage rights, then we can dismantle the institution... ;-)

Thank you my dear! I quite agree. Why let the government define how are relationships should manifest. Besides, we are buying into an institution which affords special rights to some which are denied to others. How horrific is that?? And there are many more objections, I'm sure you are aware of.
