Enough about Rick Warren's crazy, petty ass already!

I'd much prefer to concentrate on the much gay-friendlier (OK, maybe overall-human-friendlier, given his long history) Christian minister giving the closing benediction of the U.S. presidential inaguration..

I look at it as akin to "Point/Counterpoint" from the early years of Saturday Night Live - "Rick, you ignorant slut."

Also, if enough of us are pissed like that, maybe it'll motivate some more work at the grassroots again on the subject of GLBTQ/etc. freedom as a whole ... not just a bullshit wedding ring.

US officials flunk test of American history, economics, civics

If you're curious how you (United Statesian or otherwise) would do, the quiz itself is here. I scored 81.82 percent (27 out of 33 questions correct) myself.

Stop blaming PoC for Cali's Prop 8

Not even two days later, and people are blaming Prop 8's passing on PoC.

Other people are saying it, and since I can't say it well, have their links. (continued here...)

The following appeared in the "Sound Off" column of the Capital Times weekly supplement to the Wisconsin State Journal, October 15, 2008...

"There are perhaps several million Arab Americans. Barack Obama is not one of them. New Hampshire Sen. John Sununu, University of Miami President Donna Shalala and the late comedian Danny Thomas are. They are as welcome here as the Germans and it's quite offensive that some of John McCain's followers are stupid enough to think they can get somewhere by making the mere accusation that somebody is an Arab."

He makes some serious points about the push to marry...

Jack says...
That’s right, folks: no camp here. No gender non-conformity, either. And definitely no guys in gowns.
Why? Because the marriage equality movement is largely predicated on the notion that us queers are just like “everyone else,” meaning mostly white, mostly middle-class or up, gender conforming monogamists. You know, the non-threatening queers. The rest of us should apparently find a nice closet to go hide in for a while, lest we threaten the rights that are apparently meant for the more upstanding, respectable members of the LGsomeotherlessimportantletters community.

(Fresh from the "Listen to the muthafuckas whose words get taken waaaaaaay out of context before you judge" department; originally posted in If The Shoe Fits Jr.)

Watching the Bill Moyers interview with Rev. Jeremiah Wright - in a lot of ways, all it's been so far is two people of faith discussing faith, (including more of that sermon than I've seen/heard on CNN or anyplace else, with an explanat history ion to boot!) and their place in America today. No hostile, hateful stuff, no Photoshopping/Audio Hijacking/sound-biting of a man's words for the news cycle... just a dialogue.

P.S. Look up the word "hermeneutics"... you might be glad you did (esp. if you'll be watching this interview at a later time).
